A LESSON IN DRIVING
During a mission project in Italy, my wife and I took some unforgettable taxi rides through the city of Rome. Although we were seasoned travelers, nothing could have prepared us for the thrill of those taxi trips. Few traffic lights restrain the Roman drivers, and with no lane stripes on the wide streets, every day is like the “Ben Hur Memorial.” Cars speed through blind corners and jockey for position while going around traffic circles. If those taxis were at Disneyland, they would be an “E” ticket ride. Once I noticed that our cab was missing its rear view mirror, and there was no mirror on the outside of the car either. When we stopped and paid the fare, I couldn’t resist asking the driver about it.
