WORK IS A SCULPTURE
Our work is important. We can build a better world, a better community through our work. We can also kill it. When we work for the sake of work, we have created an idol as opposed to a sculpture. An idol is something we serve; a sculpture is a thing of beauty that can be used as it is needed, then put aside when no longer needed; but it does not control our lives. How many families have lost fathers, for instance, to their jobs; while all the time the parent thinks that the endless hours away from them are all on behalf of the family? And what was once mainly true for men is even more possible for women, who may have to work harder to get ahead in the professional world. From a sermon by James Huffstutler
