IT’S NOT THE ALCOHOL
In his book, Addictive Thinking, Dr. Abraham Twerski tells the story of an alcoholic who refused to admit that he was the cause of his drinking problems. First, since he drank only beer, he could not believe that he had a problem. When he began to get sick, he finally admitted that, since he was drinking half a case of beer a day, he was consuming too much fluid. To solve the problem, he switched to scotch and soda. When his condition deteriorated further, he blamed the soda and switched to whiskey and water. When his symptoms got even worse, he stopped drinking water. Quoted in Fatal Attractions, by Bill Perkins, published by Harvest House, 1991
