CHURCH OF THE NATIVITY
Ever since my first visit, the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem has become a living parable of the attitude of humility. It is one of the few places in Israel that has been undisputed as the original site of Jesus’ birth. Due partly to tradition and partly to religious and denominational differences between the Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox and Russian Orthodox Churches, most Christian sites have more than one place where that event is celebrated. There are three churches that celebrate the events on the Road to Emmaus. There are two places that claim to be Caiaphas’ house. There are two places that claim to be the empty tomb. But there is only one place that is recognized as the birth place of Jesus. Even the Islamic faith recognizes this site as the Church of the Nativity.
