THE FEBRUARY BANQUET
Every year we have tried to encourage our readers to use the words “Valentine Banquet” instead of “Sweetheart Banquet” for their annual February event. We do it again this year. Singles who are well-healed probably won’t mind the term Sweetheart Banquet. It mostly affects the newly divorced or widowed persons who can get all emotional thinking of happier days when their sweetheart was by their side. Hence, they probably won’t attend. So, if your group is planning to have a February Banquet, please don’t call it a “Sweetheart Banquet.” If it is a church-wide banquet, have them designate some spots for the singles so they can come “stag” but be able to sit at a table with some of their other single friends instead of at tables with other couples where they might feel out of place.
