TODAY’S LOST MAN
Jim McGuiggan is a preacher in Ireland. He told this story of Davey. He said Davey was three years older than he. Davey had made it into high school long before Jim, and McGuiggan was one of hundreds who idolized the boy. All those students, wanted to be like Davey! McGuiggan tells the story: “Davey was captain of the basketball team and captain of the baseball team. He did everything well. He made great grades. He dated the prettiest girl, and all the boys wanted to be just like him. All the girls wished he would call on them some day. We didn’t even really notice that he drank. Who cared that he drank? It gave his life a little bit of a spice – a little bit of adventure. We could all use a little excitement in our mundane, dull existences.” When Davey finished high school, he was drinking more. His first year of college he was drinking even more.…
