GETTING THROUGH THE GATE
In Abraham Lincoln’s younger days, he served as Captain of a company of militia during the Black Hawk Indian War. Because he was inexperienced in the formalities of military drill, he often blundered. Once while marching a line of more than twenty men abreast, he came to a long fence with a single narrow gate. For the life of him, Lincoln could not remember the proper command to get his company endwise so that it could go through the gate. Finally, as the troop neared the gate, Lincoln ordered. “This company is dismissed for two minutes, when it will fall in again on the other side of the gate.” Could we make this application to death? One of these days, the Lord will dismiss me (my soul) from this worn out human body, so that I can pass through this gate called “death”, to be rejoined with others of my company on the other side.
