THE BOOK OF NUMBERS
The book of Numbers is one of those strange books in the Bible. Although there is more to it, it is basically the first Census Report of the people of Israel in the wilderness. For a long time I didn’t really understand the significance of the book of Numbers. But recently I realized that it is a very important book that traces a people’s roots. For a long time I didn’t care about that. Partly because I didn’t know what my roots were, and I was afraid to find out. My parents divorced when I was a year old. My father left and never came back or tried to contact me. My mother remarried and I grew up not knowing anything about the Strayhorns. It’s only been in a few years ago that I found out anything about the Strayhorns. I discovered two uncles I never knew I had and a whole slew of cousins. I’ve made that connection…
