FOR THE ANGRY
Every human being that ever was and ever will be experiences anger. Anger is a behavioral, emotional and physiological reaction to stress or provocation. The Apostle Paul using the Greek Imperative tense commands all Christians in Ephesians 4:26 to “Be angry(!), and do not sin (!), do not let the sun go down on your anger!” The Imperative tense essentially means that Paul wants us to follow this command as often as the situation or need arises. Paul first instructs us to express our anger. Psychologists tell us that when anger is over controlled and repressed it will result in depression. So it’s okay to express our anger. However, Paul also instructs us “not to sin”. Inappropriate ways of expressing anger leads to uncontrolled, indiscriminate destructive physical and verbal aggression. The statistics of physically and emotionally abusive crimes graphically illustrates the evil of inappropriate expressions of anger.
