TIPS FOR TALKERS
One can acquire a lot of little gestures and habits that might impair his or her listening ability. Here is a checklist of some irritating things to avoid. 1. Avoid fidgeting with your hands or an object. 2. Avoid gazing out the window or away from the one who is talking. 3. Don’t ask questions that indicate you might doubt the person doing the talking. 4. Don’t act impatient. 5. Don’t be listening and trying to do something else like writing, watching TV, knitting or reading. 6. Don’t keep looking at your watch. 7. If you smoke, don’t blow it in the other person’s face. 8. Don’t get too close to the one who is talking. 9. Don’t doodle. 10. Don’t put in funny remarks or try to top everything the other person says. 11. Don’t pick at fingernails, clean glasses, chew on fingernails, or poke at your ears, etc. 12.
