PRAYER AT A WEDDING
Giver of good and perfect gifts,
Father and Shepherd of our souls,
Source of all life and joy;
Of Thee the family in heaven and earth is named;
From Thee come love and trust,
And all that knits together kindred minds
In unity of purpose and of thought./Thou settest us in homes — in little groups —
In which we learn to share our joys and griefs —
“Two heads in counsel, two beside the hearth,
Two in the liberal offices of life.”/Bless Thou the tie that now unites these hearts;
May their affection never change save as it grows
The deeper with the years.
Together they are young; so, too, may they grow old,
In step, each with the other, comrades all the way,
Through life’s long march unto the journey’s end.
