THE CHRISTIAN DRAMA
In a recent issue of the Christian Century there is an article on the life of Dorothy Sayer who was a friend of C.S. Lewis and others at Oxford. In an article for the Sunday Times titled “The Greatest Drama Ever Staged,” for the first time, Sayer speaks publicly as a Christian, seizing her chance to use the mass media to challenge secular presuppositions about the fussiness of doctrine and the supposed exhaustion of biblical story. She writes: “The Christian faith is the most exciting drama that ever staggered the imagination of man – and the dogma is the drama. That drama is summarized quite clearly in the creeds of the church, and if we think it dull, it is because either we have never really read those amazing documents or have recited them so often and so mechanically as to have lost all sense of their meaning.
