My guess is that few of our readers are faithful subscribers to football card publications. This being the case, the following should be new material. It is taken from an article entitled “Life Is a Bowl of Flakes” which highlights a number of the strange personalities and their antics in college and professional football. Here are a few of them. . . JOE DON LOONEY (Detroit Lions) When a Detroit coach asked him to run a play into the huddle, Looney balked. “If you want a messenger, call Western Union,” he said. Another time, he was asked if he ever met a man he didn’t like. “Yeah,” he replied, “Will Rogers.” No card was ever made for him and he was reported to end up in India, sweeping up after elephants for a swami.
