THE CUSTOMS OF HEAVEN
There’s an old story, I think Mark Twain told it first, about a rather pompous and self-important man who dies and goes to heaven. He marches up to the Pearly Gates and is met by St. Peter, who reaches out, shakes his hand and says, “Welcome.” Peter politely ushers the man on in and turns back to what he was doing. This really gets to the man, who clears his throat and acts very agitated. Peter turns around and says, “Oh, was there something else?” The man is stunned and says, “Think! Haven’t you forgotten something?” Peter looks a little startled and says, “Well, no, I don’t think so.” The man is dumbfounded and says, “Look at me!
