CHRISTMAS FORM LETTERS
A distraught woman wrote to Ann Landers and asked her why normally intelligent people seem to take leave of their senses at Christmas. She referred to those individuals who compose interminable chronicles of the year’s activities, have them mimeographed and proceed to send the drivel to everyone whose last name they can spell. She considered this the height of arrogance. She asked what makes these people think anyone is interested in wading through all that stuff. She said that for several years, she has been receiving family newsletters, and has “had it up to here.” What really galled her is the way everyone tries to paint such a glowing picture of affluence and success. She shared a few sentences from each of the ones she had received to illustrate her point: “Dear Friends: What a wonderful year we’ve had!
