A WINNING ATTITUDE
Bud Grant, the former coach of the Vikings, was another great coach and motivator. He had another gimmick that he used to teach this principle. The very first drill at the very first practice of every Viking training camp was the same: Grant personally demonstrated and the players practiced how to line up properly for the playing of the national anthem. And they got the message: Let the other teams stand around like they’re in a bread line; you’re special, you’re winners, so you look and act like winners every second you’re part of this team. Excellence comes out in the little words, the little actions, the extra things that you do.
