TOO CLEAN OR NOT TOO CLEAN
A couple I know came at last to the level of financial success where they felt they could afford help with housework. They went to an agency, and finally hired a woman to come in once a week to clean. She was scheduled to come for the first time the following Friday. On Thursday, the husband came home unexpectedly in the middle of the day to pick up some papers he’d forgotten, and found his wife home early from work, dressed in her oldest cleaning clothes, surrounded by mops, buckets, sponges, rags and lots of spray bottles. “What are you doing?” he asked. “Well, the new cleaning lady is coming tomorrow,” she replied, “and I couldn’t stand to have her see the house a mess.” Lots of times we’re afraid to let the Lord into our lives, for fear he might see the mess we are in.
