EXPOSING SIN
Exposure is no easy matter. The deceitful character of our heart helps us believe things are quite a bit better than they really are. No matter how sincerely we want to identify the wrongs in our life, we still have a hard time seeing the subtle way a demanding spirit infects our style of relating. Obvious concerns (skipping church, getting drunk, cheating on our mates, attending questionable movies) are much easier to deal with and therefore tend to receive priority attention in our efforts to become holy. We can spot them more easily, determine their sinfulness more clearly (just ask your pastor), and change them more explicitly. We know whether we walked into a movie theater or not. But have we sacrificed someone’s feelings in order to build our own self-image? Have we compromised an opportunity to love in order to stay safe? Those kinds of offenses are much more difficult to recognize, and even when we recognize them, we don’t always…
