Lucy observes the fits and starts of his progress, or lack of it and asks politely, “How are things coming along, Charlie Brown?” Charlie Brown says, “Well, I’ve bent over a nail. I’ve split the wood and I’ve hit my finger with the hammer. So — all in all — it’s coming along fairly well!”
