MISS ARIZONA
My husband and I decided to take our children on a vacation to Arizona to show them where we lived for eight and a half years after we were married. So we bought a travel van and, to express our feeling for the state, we added a personalized license plate that said, “MISS AZ.” Crossing Iowa, my husband drove while the kids and I slept in back. At one point, an 18-wheeler passed our van, and a moment later my husband heard a gruff voice over the CB radio: “I’ve been driving a long time, but you have to be the ugliest Miss Arizona I’ve ever seen.” From Mrs. Julie Smedbron, Arkdale, Wisconsin, Arizona Highways, July 1992, pg. 52
