PAYING THE PRICE
John Conley talks about the admiration we all have for great musicians. Sometimes, we might say, “I’d give anything to play like that.” What we mean is “I wish I could wake up tomorrow morning and be an instant virtuoso.” We have no interest in paying the price that these musicians paid of daily practice for over six hours at a time. All too often, our desire for holiness is much the same. We want God to give us an instant make-over instead of pursuing the spiritual disciplines and avoiding temptation.
