THE CHURCH’S TEN BAD HABITS
George Barna identifies ten activities that are present in many Protestant churches in America but are not present in healthy, growing churches. Successful churches do not: 1. Limit God by restricting the scope of their ministry. 2. Beat a dead horse by maintaining programs that are weak or failing. 3. Humiliate its visitors by too much attention to those who may want to just observe. 4. Insulate themselves from the activities, responsibilities, and functions of the community. 5. Alienate those who are different by rejecting people with divergent ideas. 6. Participate in cold-call evangelism by making random and unannounced visits to the homes of their community. 7. Apologize for challenging people to give of their time, money, and resources to make the ministry solvent and progressive. 8. Avoid confrontation with those whose behavior and attitudes are wrong and harmful to the health of the church. 9. Hire staff according to past needs or priorities but according to present needs.…
