HIGHEST LEVEL OF CHARITY
Maimonides, a Spanish philosopher who lived about 800 years ago, said there were eight degrees of charity. The seventh highest was giving to people we don’t know and who don’t know us. The highest degree was preventing poverty, either through a gift so large it overcomes the poverty or by enabling the poverty-stricken people to help themselves out of that condition.
