Attendance/Lightning LIGHTNING LOWDOWN Don’t get zapped! Each year, about 100 people die from lightning strikes in the United States and 250 more suffer injuries such as skin burns and damage to the nervous system. Whether you’re golfing, hiking, boating, or biking, there are steps you can take to ensure your safety when lightning fills the sky. Seek indoor shelter, or stay inside a closed automobile. Avoid open fields, high terrain and bodies of water. If caught in an open field, seek a low spot and squat. Don’t take cover under an isolated tree. Look for a dense forest. Avoid metal objects such as golf clubs and carts, umbrellas, fishing rods, bikes and metal jewelry. And you should also know that no one was struck or injured by lightning while in church last year! Therefore, church, by implication, is one of the safest places to be during the lightning season! See you in church this Sunday and every summer Sunday!
