SWEET WOOD OF THE CROSS
About five years ago Pacific Gas & Electric invited my wife and me to sit in their sky box at the Oakland Colosseum to attend an A’s baseball game. We raised our arms and cheered as our A’s team player hit the ball and got on base. Then I think it was Henderson who stepped up to the plate and hit the ball over the fence. We could hear, even in the sky box, the ball hitting the sweet wood of the bat — CRACK! We stood to our feet and cheered! With the sweet wood of the Cross Jesus knocked sin and eternal death out of the park for a home run. Only He could have done this. We weren’t major league players; we weren’t even minor league players; we did not even qualify for the team. Jesus did this for us while we were yet sinners.
