THIS IS MY BODY — BROKEN FOR YOU
The other day a shock went through our small community when it was revealed that a local church had been broken into and desecrated. The place was a mess of broken glass, shattered furniture and torn books. Pages had been ripped from the Bible and then slashed. But the most powerful symbol of the travesty was found in what was the crucifix. The vandals had torn Christ’s body from the cross, and not content with that, they had then snapped his body in half. Christ’s body was broken for the sins of the world, not only of those who crucified him — those from the first century — but even for those of the twentieth century which manifest in such acts of hatred the attitudes that led to Calvary. “This is my body which is broken for you.” I Corinthians 11:24.
