HE TOOK OUR PLACE
My son was three years old and suffering from encephalitis. He had been poked and probed and endured the usual painful procedures. We didn’t know if he would recover. As I looked at him in his hospital bed and my fatherly heart went out, I wished I were in his bed and I could take his pain and do the suffering for him. I couldn’t, of course; I could only turn to a heavenly Father and ask him to take my fears. He did and my son was also soon healed. And when in a few months Christmas came, I realized that God too had pain when He looked down on a humanity suffering in weakness and sin. Only He had no one else to turn to, He could only turn to Himself for a solution. He did, and we call that “Christmas” when His Son took our place, our needs and weaknesses within Himself.
