YOU HAVE TO RUN
In the movie Chariots of Fire Harold Abrahams, the British track star, loses a 100 meter heat. For a long time afterward he sits in the empty stands staring at the track. He recalls the pain of the moment when an opponent crossed the finish line a fraction of a second in front of him. Sybil Gordon, his future wife offers consolation, but Abrahams turns to her and says, “If I can’t win, I won’t run.” Sybil retorts, “If you don’t run, you can’t win.” Stung back to reality, Abrahams goes on to win the finals.
