BORN WITHOUT A SMILE
A baby was born who physically could not smile. She had a birth defect, born without the necessary nerves and muscles in her face that enable the rest of us to smile. So she will have surgery to give her a smile — a series of difficult ten-and- a-half-hour operations to do the nerve and muscle work in her face, so she can have a smile — first one side, and then the other. Can you imagine a baby not being able to smile?! It’s one of the things that give new mothers and fathers such great joy — their baby’s first smile.
