TIME FOR COMMUNICATION
We spend approximately eighty percent of our waking hours in some form of communication. The average worker spends approximately fifty percent of his/her day communicating. Salespersons, support staff personnel and top level management may be involved in communication for seventy-five percent or more of their work day. Success in business is eighty-five percent dependent on effective communication and interpersonal skills. The majority of C.E.O.’s who get fired are fired for lack of skills in this area. Time spent in communication activity is estimated as nine percent in writing, sixteen percent in reading, thirty percent in speaking and forty-five percent in listening. Approximately eighty percent of the message is distorted as it travels from the top of an organization throughout the ranks. Seventy percent of mistakes made in the work-place are attributed to ineffective communication.
