JONI’S GIFT
Joni Eareckson said her first Christmas after her diving accident was a most depressing one for a seventeen-year-old quadriplegic. “I couldn’t go and shop for that extra-special gift for people on my list. The thought that I had nothing to give left me feeling blue.” Then she remembered the story and came to the realization that Christ’s best gift to the world was himself. Suddenly she had the answer to her dilemma. She would give herself. She started the next day at her physical therapy class, trying to paint candy dishes with brushes in her mouth. Although she didn’t know it then, it was the beginning of her artistic career.
