UNENDING WHY
My sister and I would frustrate our parents with the perpetual “WHY.” When we arrived at the age where children question everything their parents say. We would use the question why to make life more difficult for them. The scenario would go like this: Mom would say, “You have to go to bed early tonight because tomorrow we have to get up early.” We would ask, “Why?” Mom would say, “Because we are going to visit Grandpa.” We would repeat, “Why?” Mom would explain, “Because we like to visit Grandpa, and we haven’t seen him for a long time.” We would again ask, “Why?” Mom would continue, “You should like to see your grandfather.” And we would ask, “Why?” This exchange would continue until our mother tired of the game and would sternly conclude, “Because I told you so!” Our questioning would end and we would go to bed.
