ARITHMETIC OF JESUS
How do we reconcile the arithmetic of Jesus? In Matthew 10:29 Jesus says that two sparrows are sold for one farthing, and Luke 12:6 he says that five sparrows are sold for two farthings. So why the price discrepancy? The answer is that the fifth sparrow is thrown in for free. It has no real value; it is not counted. But Jesus continues by telling us that not one sparrow is forgotten by God; they all have value. In the sight of God, there is no fifth sparrow. And we are worth much more than sparrows. God has not forgotten. Adapted from a submission by Gary J. Tolbert, Yakima Seventh Day Adventist Church, Yakima, Washington
