“The Watchers” A Winter’s night, dark and dreary,
A Breath of cold makes all seem eerie.
The watchers wait, huddled there,
Amidst the flocks within their care.
As each lone watcher looks about,
Wish his cloak were a little more stout,
A sudden silence begins to creep
O’er the flocks within their keep.
A silence filled with expectation,
Creeps, then swiftly fills each station,
Where trembling shepherds filled with fear,
Strain for a simple sound to hear.
The shepherds’ stark and deep’ning fright
Grows as darkness weighs the night.
Then suddenly, the skies are bright,
Suffused with a single star’s pure light.
And one pure tone rings loud and clear
For all the watchers there to hear.
A single voice, then a chorus of Heaven,
Fills their hearts and souls like leaven.
The glory of Heaven shines all around,
With songs of Angels the…
