THE BAG OF OFFENSES OBJECT LESSON
This is an object lesson that deals with the destructive nature of holding grudges and being willing to not express forgiveness. Materials needed are a strong grocery bag labeled “BAG OF OFFENSES” and a number of bricks or large stones. The bricks or stones serve as reminders of particular offenses. Prior to the service distribute the bricks or stones throughout your auditorium at random. When you begin collecting the bricks or large stones, the congregation will recognize them as the offenses and unforgiveness that they may harbor. The dialogue may go something like this : “We each possess a BAG OF OFFENSES” (hold up empty bag so people can see it). This bag is where we store offenses inflicted on us over the years.
