THE RIGHT DOG LIMPS
A new sign, “Puppies for sale,” had just gone up on the pet shop window when a small lad walked in. “How much are they?” the young customer asked. “This is a good breed, and I’m asking $35 to $50 for each pup from this litter,” the proprietor replied. Since the boy had only $2.37, he asked if he could pay that much down and the balance at fifty cents a week. The owner agreed, and brought out the puppies to frisk across the floor. When the boy selected one that limped, the proprietor warned that it had been born with a defect in a hip joint. Whereupon the little fellow pulled up his trouser leg and revealed two metal braces on either side of his leg plus a leather cap over his knee. “You see,” he explained, “he’s going to need a lot of special understanding, and I’m just the guy who can give it to him!” All around…
