Burden | Change | Counseling | Grace | Help | Peace | Power | Responsibility | Salvation

IT IS NOT JUST UP TO US!
Here is a word of caution from psychiatrist Earl Jabay concerning a tendency by many pastors to be a little to quick to pin the responsibility to change on the counselee with words like “It’s up to you…” “Salvation by the grace of God rather than hard work is the most basic teaching of the Bible. And since nothing has really changed in the human heart since biblical times, it remains the central issue in our lives today. Any counsel which is offered on behalf of the Church of Jesus Christ ought to be based on that premise. When it is, the power of God moves in to save mightily.” From The Kingdom of Self, by Earl Jabay, published by Logos International, Plainfield, New Jersey, 1974, page 108
