A LEG TO STAND ON
Lisa Love won a spot on the cheerleading squad in the spring of her junior year in high school. A month later, she had to have her leg amputated. Over the summer, she got a prosthesis and learned to maneuver around on it. She also persuaded her cheerleader sponsor to reluctantly agree to let her continue as a cheerleader. Lisa worked hard on her routines and joined the other cheerleaders for the first pep rally of the fall in the high school gym. While somersaulting across the slick gym floor, her artificial leg came off and slid across the gym floor, leaving Lisa to stumble on one leg. Lisa buried her face in her hands and thought of quitting. Instead, she motioned for a friend to help her strap her leg back on.
