COMMUNICATION
Do you ever wonder how the message gets through? I clipped these two from a column by Harry Farrell in the San Jose Mercury News. Harry was reporting on some of the delightful calls they get in the Circulation Department. Caller: “I want to stop my Chronicle.” [The San Francisco Chronicle] Circulation: “I’m sorry, this is the Mercury News.” Caller: “I know that. All the Chronicle lines are busy. Can’t you stop it for me?” And the second call is like unto it: Circulation: “May I have your address?” Caller: “I live in Carmel, and I don’t have a street address. Start at the hardware store and go two miles toward the ocean. Turn right at Dolores. It’s three or four blocks to Michael. Turn right, and 100 feet further on is Mom’s General Store. Go in and talk to Mom. She knows where I live.”
