Historians tell us that James Madison was a little wisp of a man. He was scarcely 5’6″ and weighed only slightly over 100 pounds. As a child, he was sickly; and as a young man, skinny and insipid. He went to Princeton and graduated in two years instead of four. But he was unsocial, and never participated in sports. He did not distinguish himself in any way. There were 12 members of his graduating class. Madison’s only participation was to quietly receive his diploma. All eleven others had a part on the program. He was shy with women. At 31, he fell in love and became engaged. It only lasted 6 weeks. The girl came to her senses and broke it off. With a record like this, you would think that James Madison would never amount to anything. But he did have one strength, and he knew how to use it. At the age of 36, he represented Virginia at the Constitutional Convention…
