MUTUAL RECOGNITION
My brother found an old Mize Outlook (date July 6, 1905) in a shop he has in Mize, Mississippi. Here is a story from it: A man was traveling by train to Nashville to seek employment as a newspaper reporter. When asked for his ticket, he named a prominent paper in Nashville and explained that he was a reporter for that paper and did not need a ticket. The conductor told him that the editor of the paper was riding in the rear of the train and if he could identify the man, then he would not need to pay. The editor did indeed identify the man as he had fallaciously claimed. The man later aproached the editor and asked him why he had covered for him as he had. The other man answered, “I’m not the editor, either. I’m traveling on his pass, and was scared to death lest you should give me away.”
