Mark Neuenschwander from Bellevue, WA, called to share the following story with me. It seems that a fellow was sitting huddled by a beach fire out on the chill Pacific coast of the state of Washington. Along came a game warden and asked him what he was doing. He said he was roasting a sea gull for his dinner. The warden said, “What? A sea gull? You can’t do that. Don’t you know there is a law against killing sea gulls? They are a crucial part of our ecosystem here. They keep the beaches clean. I’m going to have to cite you, and it’s a pretty stiff fine.” The fellow by the fire said, “Oh, come on, man, it’s just one sea gull. And I’m hungry and out of work. Gimme a break.
