TOO MANY CHURCH FRIENDS
First Church was planning an evangelistic crusade. The pastor, wanting to win as many souls as possible, pleased with his people to bring their unsaved friends and neighbors to the services. On the Sunday preceding the meetings, he passed out a printed card which had 5 spaces on it. Then he asked everyone to fill in the names of 5 persons they would actually pray for and seek out to invite to the meetings. Only a few responded. One deacon later remarked, “You know, Pastor, I can’t think of even one person I can invite – all my friends are here in the church.” His response was typical and the meetings were for the most part a failure. One of the great defects in modern evangelism is that so few Christians actually have any “worldly” friends.
