WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?
Henry Ward Beecher was a preacher in Brooklyn. Once in a while a certain member would come and say to him, “I counted your mistakes in English today, and you had 20.” Dr. Beecher would smile and reply, “I’ll bet you I made 40!” During that same time there was a lad named Michael who would sit in the back pew (an immigrant boy not long in the country). He grew up to be Dr. Michael Pupin, professor at Columbia University and a noted inventor. Once he said of his early years when he was lonesome and trying to find his way: “Nothing so inspired and stimulated (and blessed) me as those sermons of Dr. Beecher.” One listener found grammatical mistakes, and one youngster found help.
