OLD HEARTS BREAKING
I liked these lines by Betty Spurlock Brocksmith (from the Rotarian magazine), sent in by Pastor Story of Safford, Arizona. Oh, the young heart breaks with a roar and a rattle — of an avalanche start or a battle in the making. Anyone listening would shout, “Hear that? That was the sound of a young heart breaking.” But old hearts break so quietly, without sound. Unless one chanced to be looking down, he’d not see the sifting of heart pieces to the ground — so quiet is an old heart’s breaking.
