NO ONE CARED
A few years ago in Florida, a college student died in his apartment. His death occurred in October. His body was discovered at the end of December when the landlord had sheriff’s deputies forcefully enter his apartment to serve eviction papers. He had been dead since Halloween, but throughout the end of a semester and two holidays (Thanksgiving and Christmas), no one had reported him missing — neither professors, fellow students nor parents. A 20- year-old student died alone, and no one noticed. From Be All That You Can Be, 1995, by Michael B. Brown
