FREE TO GROW
Once upon a time, long ago and far away, there was a gardener. She was a very good gardener who paid special attention to every one of her plants, and her garden always flourished. However, each season of the year brought challenges, so she attended neighborhood meetings where gardening tips were generously shared. In the spring she prepared the soil for the seed. The soil was turned over and over to separate out all the weeds and rocks. Then, she tilled in fertilizer and compost. The soil was ready for planting. During a neighborhood meeting her fellow gardeners recommended leaving the soil just as it was found. They said, “The plants would grow stronger if they struggled in hard soil!” They thought her crazy for spending so much time preparing the soil. “Why, it should be good enough for them to have beds to grow in!” Summer came and with it the harsh sun which threatened to dry up both soil…
