CHURCH IS WHAT WE MAKE IT
Tim Stafford contrasts the church to the natural family. He writes: “Our churches have grown more sophisticated and our society more mobile, Christians have regarded churches with the eyes of consumers. They ask, ‘Where will I be fed?’ They jump from one church to the next, searching for personal satisfaction – ‘blessings’. But we do not relate to our families this way. Good or bad, they are our people. We show up at family gatherings whether we feel like it or not. We do not come to a family Thanksgiving dinner merely looking to be fed. We bring our share of the food. Many of us know how to be loyal to our human family, but not to our Christian family. Are we loyal to our church family regardless of how its members act?
