BEGRUDGING I
‘ve always been fascinated by the incomparable nature of God’s generosity as demonstrated by Jesus’ story in Matthew 20:14-16 — about the laborers who each had a different contract for their work. Particularly intriguing is the phrase “Or do you begrudge my generosity?” I’ve often noticed how we do, as a matter of fact, often begrudge God’s generosity to others — we feel left out. In speaking of this recently I used the story I found in Peanuts. It seems Charlie Brown and Linus were walking along and chatting, and Linus said: “I’m interested in learning how to develop a real concern for others.” Charlie Brown asked, “You mean you want to be concerned about those who are less fortunate than you?” Linus responded, “No, I want to be concerned about those who are more fortunate than I am I want to bring them down to my level.”
