KIDS OF THE KINGDOM
The playwright Victor Hugo captured the essence of motherhood in one of his plays in which a ship’s captain gives a starving mother and her two starving children a slice of bread. The mother promptly tears the slice in half and gives one piece to each child while taking none for herself. A deckhand standing nearby asks, “Is it because she is not hungry, Captain?” The captain replies, “No, it is because she is a mother.” Charles Dickson
